Phil Morey

Girls' volleyball advocate & blogger

Phil retired from teaching in 2011 with 33 years in the classroom and on a court. He still is a volleyball trainer after 40-plus years.

He was the co-director of two volleyball clubs in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. He was instrumental in the beginning of club volleyball in the Fort Wayne area.

Phil was the head volleyball coach at Wayne High School for 12 years and an assistant coach charged with training for the program. He was also the head girls’ basketball and softball coach at Wayne High School for two years

Phil has never played in an organized volleyball program. He went to college to play basketball and baseball but ended up playing baseball and golf.

By a twist of fate, Phil accidentally became a volleyball coach. Because he was never a player, He came to understand the game from a completely skill-focused perspective rather than a player’s perspective.

He developed the ability to teach volleyball rather than play. Phil can't hit a quick tempo ball, but he sure as hell can teach a player how to do it.

Phil is married to a local teacher. They have two adult children who have left the nest and several tiny dogs.

Phil gets together with childhood friends on a regular basis. They spend time planning reunions, laughing and eating onion pizza.
